Mt Gulugod Baboy day hike from Manila
A sea of rolling green hills above Batangas, with 360-degree views out to the water. Beginner-friendly, deliberately slow-paced, and built for people who have never hiked before. Roundtrip van from Manila, a proper lunch, and nobody gets left behind.

About this day
Gulugod Baboy sits above Mabini in Batangas, and the reason it works so well as a first hike is that there is no drama to it. Open grassland, rolling hills one after another, and a ridge that opens out to a 360-degree view across the Batangas mountains and the sea. No scrambling, no exposure, no technical sections.
We run this at a deliberately slow pace. The coordinator walks at the back, not the front, and the group regroups at every rise. If you are the slowest person on the trail, that is fine, and nobody will make you feel it. That is not a marketing line, it is the actual rule we operate by.
This is the first hike in our beginner series. If you have been meaning to start hiking and have not known where to begin, this is the one we would put you on.
What makes our day different
A proper sit-down lunch
Not a sandwich handed over in a bag. A real meal, eaten sitting down together, which is usually the moment a group of strangers turns into a group. Most operators on this route either skip lunch or keep it very small.
You do not go home empty-handed
A Trouvaille tote bag, a hiker certificate, a trail snack and bottled water, plus group and summit photo assistance.
A coordinator whose only job is you
A Trouvaille Diaro coordinator travels with the group alongside the local guide, so somebody is always handling logistics, pace and stragglers rather than leading from the front. Safety briefing and first aid kit come as standard.

Know before you go
- Trail shoes or rubber shoes with grip. This is grassland, not rock, but it gets slippery after rain.
- A small backpack, and 1 to 2 litres of water on top of what we hand out.
- An extra shirt for the ride home. You will sweat more than you expect on the open ridge.
- There is very little shade on the ridge. Hat and sunscreen matter here.
- Bring any personal medication, and tell us about anything relevant on the registration form.
- You do not need to be fit to join this hike. You need to be able to walk for a few hours at your own pace.
- If you have never hiked before, this is the right starting point. Say so when you message and we will look after you.
How to join, and how payment works
- Message us with your preferred date on WhatsApp, Viber or Messenger.
- We check availability with the local operator and come back to you.
- Complete the registration form and waiver.
- Pay the PHP 1,000 reservation fee per person to secure your slot.
- Receive your written booking confirmation with pickup details.
- Settle the remaining balance no later than three days before the trip.
- Receive your final trip instructions: schedule, what to bring and reminders.
- Join the trip. A Trouvaille Diaro coordinator runs the day with you.
A PHP 1,000 reservation fee per person secures your slot and is applied to the total. Your written confirmation is issued once we receive it. The remaining balance is due no later than three days before the trip. Unpaid slots after that cut-off are released. We accept GCash and bank transfer, and payment details follow once availability is confirmed.
If we call the day off for weather or any operational reason, you choose: move to another date, or hold the amount as credit against any other Trouvaille Diaro trip. If you cannot make it yourself, your slot is transferable to someone else with 48 hours notice. Reservation fees are non-refundable but they are never lost.
Talk to a person before you book
Ages, fitness, dietary needs, or whether this is even the right trip for you. Message us on whichever of these you already use and a human will answer.
Questions travellers ask
I have never hiked before. Is this really suitable?
Yes, and it is the specific reason this trip exists. Open rolling grassland, no scrambling, no exposure, and a pace set by the slowest person rather than the fastest. The coordinator walks at the back.
Is there hotel pickup from Manila?
On a private booking, yes, anywhere in Metro Manila. On a joiners departure the group assembles at McDonald’s Quezon Avenue in Quezon City at 3:30 AM and leaves at 4:00 AM. Optional pickups at Shell Magallanes, PITX and Shell SLEX Mamplasan can be arranged in advance. If you would rather have door-to-door pickup, ask us about running it as a private group.
Is lunch included?
Yes, a proper sit-down meal after the descent, plus breakfast in the van and a trail snack during the hike. Vegetarian and halal on request. A lot of operators on this mountain skip lunch entirely.
How long is the hike itself?
You start walking around 8:00 AM and are back down by roughly 12:30 PM, including summit time for photographs. The full day runs from a 4:00 AM departure to a 7:00 to 8:00 PM return.
What happens if fewer than 10 people join?
We may reschedule or swap the mountain. Your payment transfers to the new date or becomes credit against another trip. You never lose it.
Can I bring a friend who is fitter than me?
Please do. The group regroups constantly, so faster walkers wait at the rises. Nobody is stuck walking alone.
